Community Collaboration and INNOVATION

Learning, Growing, and Building with Purpose EVENT!

At Willows Vending, every step of the journey has come with a lesson.

Some lessons come from experience. Some come from trial and error. And some come from sitting in a room with other business owners, listening to their stories, and realizing that growth rarely follows a perfectly straight line.

We recently had the opportunity to attend an event hosted by the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber and the Wilkes University Small Business Development Center, and we left feeling inspired, encouraged, and reminded of something every entrepreneur needs to hear:

Stick to the plan, but stay flexible.

Gratitude

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber and the Wilkes University SBDC for hosting this valuable event.

Events like this create space for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and community members to learn from one another. They remind us that building a business is not just about having an idea. It is about taking action, making adjustments, staying committed, and surrounding yourself with people who understand the road.

We also want to give a special thank you to the local businesses and leaders who shared their experiences:

Back Mountain Microgreens
Specialty Physical Therapy
Queer Education, LLC
Z&S Construction

Their stories were honest, practical, and encouraging. Each one offered a different look at what it means to launch, grow, and sustain a business in today’s world.

The Power of Staying Flexible

One of the biggest takeaways from the event was the importance of flexibility.

When you start a business, having a plan matters. A plan gives you direction. It helps you make decisions. It keeps you stay grounded when things feel uncertain.

But even the best plan needs room to breathe.

Markets change. Customers’ needs change. Opportunities appear in unexpected places. Challenges pop up like weeds. The key is not to abandon your mission every time the road curves. The key is to know when to adjust, when to listen, and when to pivot.

For Willows Vending, that mindset is central to how we grow.

Building Willows Vending Around Real Needs

Willows Vending was created to bring smarter, more useful vending options to the places people live, work, and gather.

That means we are not interested in doing things simply because “that’s how vending has always been done.” We believe vending can be more responsive, more local, and more convenient.

Our goal is to provide smart vending solutions that fit the needs of each location. From snacks and drinks to grab-and-go meals, personal care items, laundry essentials, dog treats, and locally sourced products, we want our machines to feel useful, thoughtful, and connected to the community around them.

That requires listening. It requires learning. And yes, sometimes it requires a good pivot.

Don’t Bend Yourself Into Someone Else’s Mold

Another message that stood out from the event was this:

Don’t bend yourself into someone else’s mold.

That is powerful advice for any business owner.

It can be tempting to compare your business to someone else’s path, timeline, brand, or definition of success. But each business has its own roots. Growth looks different for everyone.

At Willows Vending, we are committed to building something that reflects who we are: community-minded, practical, flexible, and focused on making everyday convenience easier for real people.

We do not want to be just another vending company. We want to be a partner to apartment communities, workplaces, local businesses, and shared spaces that want better options close by.

Trust the Process

Business growth takes patience.

There are exciting days, challenging days, and plenty of days where you are simply doing the behind-the-scenes work that no one sees. But every conversation, every event, every partnership, and every lesson helps shape the next step.

The event hosted by the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber and Wilkes University SBDC was a great reminder that no business grows alone. Community matters. Mentorship matters. Shared experience matters.

And when the road changes?

You pivot.

Looking Ahead

Willows Vending is continuing to grow with intention. We are building partnerships, exploring new product options, supporting local businesses, and working to bring smart vending solutions to more communities.

We are grateful for opportunities to learn from other entrepreneurs and to be part of a local business community that encourages innovation, resilience, and authenticity.

So here is the lesson we are carrying forward:

Stick to the plan.
Stay flexible.
Be you.
Trust the process.
And when the road changes, pivot.
